Tangke Salt Water Lagoon of Isla de Gigantes: Hidden Gem of Carles, Iloilo

Unveiling the Hidden Lagoon of Enchantment in Isla de Gigantes Sur

Deep within the heart of Northern Iloilo, cradled by jagged limestone cliffs and kissed by the turquoise waters of the Visayan Sea, lies one of the Philippines’ best-kept secrets—Tangke, a natural saltwater lagoon tucked away in the mystical embrace of Isla de Gigantes Sur.

Known to locals as a place of both breathtaking beauty and otherworldly mystery, Tangke is more than just a swimming destination. It's a site woven with folklore, where the water rises with the tide—and, some say, with magic—during the feast of San Juan de Bautista every June 24. According to island legends, this sudden surge is no mere coincidence but the quiet work of enkantos, the island’s unseen enchanted spirits.

Visitors are drawn not only to its crystal-clear, shallow waters—perfect for a refreshing dip—but also to the towering cliffs and dramatic rock formations that surround it, forming a peaceful, almost sacred oasis. But don’t let the calm fool you. The locals have one rule: keep your voices low and your energy respectful. The enchanted ones do not take kindly to noise and chaos.

Reaching Tangke is an adventure in itself. The journey begins at Estancia, a bustling fishing town in Iloilo. From the seaport, a one-hour pump boat ride takes you across glistening seas to South Gigantes Island, where your hidden paradise awaits.

Whether you’re an intrepid traveler chasing off-the-map wonders, a storyteller in search of legends, or a soul yearning for serenity, Tangke offers a travel experience unlike any other. Come for the view, stay for the mystery—and leave with stories that blur the line between nature and myth.
